5. Evaluative Questions:
A. Would you feel threatened to show your project to an expert for evaluation?
No I would not. My project is one in which I placed a good deal of work into. I am having with the end result and would want others to view it.
B. List three examples of personal satisfaction gained from this experience.
1. Mr. Paul was a great mentor to me. He was so interesting and good at playing bass. The stories that he told me made our time together much more fun. He also taught me what a bass really was and what its role was in a band.
2. Playing a song was a great accomplishment. When I first began I never imagined I would be able to actually play a song.
3. Knowing that I could actually be successful at the senior project was a huge accomplishment in my mind. For four years I had heard of the dreaded Senior Project but found it not too difficult.
C. What is the most important skill you have acquired during the project phase?
Finger placement on the fret board was very difficult in the beginning. It took a great deal of time to get my finger feeling comfortable. Knowing the fret board wasn’t something that came easy either.
D. What comments about your project have you heard from students, parents, teachers or community members?
1. “Wow, I can tell you worked hard” – Chris Speed
2. “Looks good” - Gina Picot
3. “Nice Job” - Dean Picot
E. Be very specific and describe how the project has stretched you; emotionally, intellectually and/or physically.
I feel that before the project I hadn’t had a really touch academic and out of school challenge. I was overwhelmed when I first began writing my research paper. However I managed to work through it. By me doing the hours early I saved a lot of time and hassle.
F. How do you feel your project would compare to other similar projects? Explain why?
I suppose they could always be equal. My friends have been telling me that I am doing way to much work on it. It seems as if most of my fellow classmates are relaxed about it. I really wanted to give 110% this school year and this project has been a major part of it.
G. List the problems you encountered.
I had a time getting footage of me playing bass. I had to get a friend to bring his camera over and record me playing.
When making my video I encountered problems such as Time management. I edited the video at school so I had to stay after some days.
Playing “Sweet Home Alabama” was a big challenge.
H. How did you handle these problems?
I got a friend to bring his camera over and record me playing.
I stayed after for a few days. I managed to get one of my teachers to let me use his video editing software.
I practiced it over and over. Then eventually I got the notes down and can play it fluently.
I. Is your project original or creative in any way?
It is creative in that I am using different playing methods. I also made a video that demonstrate me playing scales as well as songs on the Bass.
J. Describe very specifically how you strove to make your project the very best quality you could.
As soon as I knew that a research paper was due. I began to work on it and gather sources. As soon as the teacher say’s something is due, no matter how far off. I start to work on it. This very document that I am answering questions for is an example of that.
K. How do you feel about having your project available as a model for next year's students?
It would be a good idea. I would like to altar it a bit for a more viewer friendly feel.
M. If given the opportunity to redo the project, what would you do differently?
Put more emphasis on different playing methods. Possibly elaborate a little more in my paper.
N. beyond the project itself, what did you learn about yourself?
I learned that I can do a very hard project. I feel that if I just had to play the bass and did not have to worry about all of the deadlines and such. That I would have done a better job in that I would have actually had time to play my bass more.
O. What grade would you give yourself for your project? Justify the evaluation of your grade in at least 25 words. Give very specific support.
I would give myself a 95. I feel that I excelled in every area of the Project. Not only did I try hard but I really did try and succeed to learn the bass guitar.
